While the client lies back, eyes closed, with protective gauze underneath, the esthetician coaxes the lashes around tiny rubber rods, using water-soluble glue. Perming solution is dabbed on and allowed to set, followed by a neutralizer and cleanup, including an eye flush.

The process takes about 45 minutes. The perm lasts about three months.
